| about matt |
| From an early age Matt felt a need to document the world around him, not only to preserve the memories of deeds done, but also because he felt he “literally saw the world differently through the lens of a camera.” This interest in photography blossomed into an all-encompassing passion while he was attending the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Matt realized that his calling in life lay not in medicine but in photography. He immediately began pursuing his new career by studying at the internationally recognized Miami Ad School on Miami Beach where two events simultaneously occurred to alter his path further, directing him toward his photographic specialty. At the Miami Ad School, Matt took an architectural photography course with Robin Hill and he read The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand. Matt fell completely in love with architecture and architectural photography. He loves the notion that an inanimate object such as a building can become part of a living landscape. He believes that, "every building and every manmade structure is not stagnant, it is dynamic; changing with each passing cloud, each sunset, and each passing season. Never in the history of the world will your building look exactly as it does today. Never again will all the elements of the cosmos line up in such a fashion as to exactly duplicate the way your building looks right now at this very moment." A building breathes life into the environment around it, and as Howard Roark said in The Fountainhead, ”No two buildings have the same purpose. The purpose, the site, the material determine the shape. Nothing can be reasonable or beautiful unless it's made by one central idea, and the idea sets every detail. A building is alive, like a man.” Matt passionately believes that every photograph should tell a story and that architectural photographs are no exception. “Lighting, composition, and exposure are the elements that blend together to tell your audience something meaningful about your space.” Matt specializes in creating stunning High Dynamic Range (HDR) architectural images through a blend of the latest digital software, equipment, and his own unique techniques. These award-winning HDR images reveal the inherent character in any space. Popular Photography & Imaging Magazine recognized his expertise in the area of interior lighting techniques in the May 2008 issue.
